Petra

Early in 2017 I managed to spend a day and a half in Petra just before a work trip to Amman. The place is incredible, and so much bigger than you think! Also, lots of the interesting stuff requires you to be nimble like a mountain goat (or able to ride one of the ones the locals will rent you). I covered 26km in 40 degree heat, ascending over 170 floors (if you believe your iphone that is) carrying a fully loaded backpack and it was worth every bead of sweat. What an incredibly friendly and welcoming place to be, with so much history to see and so much more remaining undiscovered. I met a group of archeologists there who informed me that it’s believed only 10-15% of the site has been discovered so far. With so many adventures crammed into such a short space of time this place will live with me for a long time. I didn’t arrive on one of the evening candlelight walk to the Siq days, maybe next time…
